Chinese Telephone Users to Top 750mln in 2005

According to a Chinese National Development and Reform Commission report, China's telephone subscribers totaled 732 million in October 2005 and will reach 750 million by the end of the year. Of the 732 million users, 383 million were mobile service subscribers and 349 were fixed-line users. During the first ten months of 2005, China gained 48.2 million new handset users and 36.8 million fixed-line users. NDRC has also reported 11.6% year-on-year growth in the Chinese telecom industry's revenue from January and October, to 480.8 billion RMB, with 10.3% growth forecast for 2005, to 582 billion RMB. In the same period, Chinese telecoms' combined pre-tax profits hit 108.10 billion RMB, for 12.1% year-on-year growth, and the Chinese telecom industry's fixed-asset investment dropped 10.5%, to 139.3 billion RMB.
